Facebook can not survive this scenario

Yesterday I read such a good article (you have to read it!) about the fact that Facebook moves out the chat from their app. WIRED analyzed the decision to be the starting point for a big change of Facebook as we know it today. The focus has totally shifted from laptop to mobile. Facebook will become several apps with different purposes.

“The resounding consensus among the Facebook experts I talked to is that the company is finally making the jump to thinking and acting like an app maker, a software company the keeps functionality narrow and targeted. While users may grow attached to services that work the way they’re used to, like the full-featured Facebook app, the growing Silicon Valley consensus is that people really want a more bite-sized future.”

I can see that is true. I mean, why do we all love Instagram? Because of the simplicity, the one and only feature. But in this scenario, I can not see how the “real” Facebook can survive. And suddenly I get a crystal clear picture of the reasons why Facebook bought WhatsApp for instance. I don’t think anybody will use the separate Facebook messenger app when there already is so many apps for that, like WhatsApp (Facebook).

No, Facebook will not die tomorrow. But I really start to believe that Facebook just pushed the button in the process to become something totally new. And I don’t think that thing will be called Facebook.
